Why is Disney's Doug so Critisized

I grew up watching this, and wonder what the big deal is.

If it's not a good game or catholic...who do you call?...why Pokematic "hi"

I've been trying to find some information on Disney's Doug since it was the Doug I grew up with, and while I enjoy the Nick version, and can find on demand and such, I want to see the Doug I know and love. Well when looking up, I found so much hate for Disney's Doug. And here's my question, why?

I remember watching Disney's Doug on 1 Saturday Morning, Disney's One Too, and Toon Disney. I also remember watching it on Nick at my grandparents house. I couldn't see any real difference between them aside from a different theme song and a couple of changes that quite frankly, don't make that large a difference, but apparently is so important to nick's Doug fans. Here's the thing, Doug is Doug. As a 5-8 year old, it didn't really matter weather it was Nick or Disney.

I think I have an idea why people complain so much about Disney's Doug. It's all nostalgia, just nostalgia. People had Nick's Doug for 4 years. People got so used to the Nick version, that when some minor changes occurred, people couldn't take it. The most drastic change was the lengthening of the episodes from 2 15 minute episodes to 1 30 minute episode. Now as someone who has done some writing and knows how to tell a story, a 30 minute time allows more time for plot and story development. While that did mean I was never able to finish an episode when watching it in the morning before school, think about it, longer time means more complex stories.

Now while that would be an adjustment, and so would a new theme song, many of the things people complain about is so ridiculous. People complain about the beets breaking up. From what I remember, the beets weren't super important in the Nick version. While they did break up, I remember them playing a very active role in many story plots of the Disney version. Disney gave them more life, quit complaining.

People complain about Doug's voice. Want to know why his voice is different? It's because the original voice actor didn't want to be a part of Disney's Doug. So what did Disney do? They tried their hardest and from what I recall, included the voice change as a minor plot point in an episode. I have confirmation, in the first episode of Disney's Doug, where Doug is all afraid of change, he says "you want to know what I hate about change? It keeps on chaanging. Hmm, guess my voice is changing." Yeah, Disney had the courtesy to explain the voice change.

People complain about the Honker Burger getting taken down and the hang out being replaced by Swirlies. OK, that one was a bit odd. Probably has something to do with wanting to reinvent themselves. But quite frankly, what difference does it make? The kids don't hang out at the burger joint but instead at an ice cream joint. They still sit at tables, still hang out, still eat food, what's the big deal? I remember there being at least one story being based on the new fancy food place.

The list goes on and on. Quite frankly, most of them are just minor cosmetic changes. New clothes and such. Didn't change the story or flow at all. Want to know a change I felt was for the better? The animation was better with Disney. Disney's Doug has much smoother animation than Nick's Doug. I like cartoons to feel polished. Another positive? It was on network TV. Nick only had a brief period of network TV airing, Nick on CBS. And from what I remember, it was basically Sponge Bob and other reruns. Disney on the other hand, aired everything new on network TV, aka One Saturday Morning. I was able to watch it since I didn't have cable as a kid.

All I have to say is, don't let some cosmetic changes and network transfer ruin a good show for you. If you like Doug so much, here's a question for you? Would you rather have a good series canceled or have it continued by someone else where they change a few minor things but keep it going? I would rather have it continued. I want Pokemon continued here in the US even if it is Pokemon USA and the video is no longer edited. If you don't like the Disney version because there are differences, watch the first episode of Disney's Doug and all the changes will be explained and closure will be given.

Well this has been Pokematic signing off and bu bye.

Where's Naruto Shippuden?

It's your best show and you treat it like crap. Let us fans know when it's on.

If it' not a good game or catholic...who do you call?...Why Pokematic "hi."

I don't care about the edits, they aren't that bad. I don't care about the dub and voice acting, viz does a good job with that. I don't care that it's on Disney XD and not Cartoon Network. But what I do care about is that the schedule is inconstant with no warning.

A couple of years ago, Disney XD acquired the rights to the dub of Naruto Shippuden not long after their re branding as Disney XD. I'll admit, I wasn't super happy about the Toon Disney becoming Disney XD, but once I foud out that that's where Naruto Shippuden would air after Naruto was canceled on Cartoon Network, I was looking forward to it. Sure all the other fans were all "this is so stupid, Disney is going to edit the shit out of it, why didn't they put it on cartoon network?" but not me. I went in with an open mind and genuinely liked the TV dub. I remember Viz releasing the first episode dubed for free via PSN, so I compared the uncut dub to the cut dub, and it wasn't all that bad. Sure, the time and day was a bit odd, Wednesday night at 8:30, but it was on and I watched it every week. Fast forward a couple of months, and the new episode wasn't there, it was a rerun of the suit life of Zack and Cody. I don't want to watch a TV show that I've seen already, I want new Naruto. I guess the hiatus was due to not having enough episodes. Well wait a few weeks and Naruto is back on Wednesday at 8:30.

Now I watch Disney XD regularly, so I know when they advertise. With a little warning this time, they change Naruto Shippuden to 9:00 on Wednesday night. OK, let us know, less weirder than 8:30 in my opinion. Well this goes on for months, but then Naruto drops off the face of Disney XD with no warning or explanation at all. I went months without watching Shippuden. Sure, I could have watched it subbed on Hulu like I did before XD, but I figured it was just another hiatus and would come back in a few weeks. Weeks turned into months and it seemed as if Shippuden has left the channel. I looked high and low to find when Shippuden would be on Disney XD, but aparently I just didn't look hard enough. I saw that it was on at 11 pm on Saturday, but those were reruns and I'm typically too tired to stay up later than 11 and actually get anything out of it. The Disney XD website was no help. The TV line-up websites I went to were no help. All seemed lost. Until last night.

Last night, I decided I'd see what was on Disney XD before I went to bed, and low and behold, Naruto Shippuden, an episode I haven't seen. I figured it was just a rerun that I haven't seen, but after some research, I found out it was a new episode. I was happy, but too tired to rejoice. After a little more research, I found that Disney XD changed the air date and time of Naruto Shippuden to 11 Saturday Night.

Disney XD hasn't handled Naruto Shippuden very well. I don't blame them for the lac of reruns at decent hours. Cartoon Network never even reran Naruto except for the Naruto Hundo so reruns even at crazy hours were still reruns. But beyond that, Disney has done a very poor job at handling Shippuden. Naruto Shippuden was the reason I started watching Disney XD, and for a while, the only reason. Many people came to Disney XD because of Shippuden, and found maybe some of their other shows entertaining. I saw some ads for Naruto Shippuden when Disney XD first started. They were promos saying "we're getting Naruto Shippuden" and after those, they were "we have Naruto Shippuden, watch it." But soon no ads were issued. What was probably their only reason for being successful, they just let go like it was that relative that you wish you didn't have. Then comes the hiatus with no warning at all. I watched only to find out when Naruto was coming back, but they never said. Only after it started airing again did they start running ads. While there was warning of new time slot to 9, there wasn't much. I think only in the week before did they say a couple of times, "Catch at the new time of 9." Then without warning at all, did they move it to a completely different day at a completely different time. There are no ads for Naruto at all. Trust me, I watch Disney XD regularly and there are no ads. I read somewhere that it is because of the violence in the current arc and the not wanting to tone it down to much. Disney, you are paying hundreds of thousands of dollars for the rights for Naruto Shippuden, and it is probably the only reason XD is successful today. I ask that you show some respect for your awesome anime. I don't ask for reruns, I don't ask for an earlier time, all I ask for, is some recognition.

Well this has been Pokematic signing off and bu bye.

What has happened to children's TV programing?

What has happened to childrens television? It sucks now. This will be an ongoing project. If you have someinging to remember, I will bring it up. This was the first draft. Enjoy it for what it is. Come back after for a better rememberence.

If it's not a good game or catholic...who do you call?...Why Pokematic "hi".

There once was a time when parents and children could sit down and watch tv together without the parents being bord. There once was a time when tv shows were organized into weekly lineups. There once was a time when Friday night meant getting to stay up later to watch new cartoons. There once was a time when you could watch anime on tv without a subscription service or video devices And finally, there once was a time when kids could watch cartoons on non-cable TV.

For anyone who is getting nastalgic, I am refering to 90s and before with television viewing. While I can find some good programing on now, it is hard to find what once made tv great. And here's the sad part, I don't think it'll ever come back. And we have Hanna Montana to blame. Now this isn't a "bash Miely and her writers" text video. This is just a lets get nastalgic thing. I will cover what was my childhood, and how I feel that I wouldn't have that great experience without what once was.

For starters, I didn't have cable as a kid. Now adays that's a death sentance to kids without cable, but it used to not be. I used to be able to watch kids WB, 1 Saturday Morning, Disney's One Too, and some others that were more obscure. And here's the thing, they didn't suck, for either my parents or me. I remember watching Sailor Moon with my dad and 101 Dialmations the series and Recess with my mom. We could all watch cartoons together, and while they may not have enjoyed it as much as some would, I remember having a babysitter that would watch Pokemon with me and one time he brought over a 6 hour tape of it. But I guess I should get back to the over the air waves being good. They had some good shows on. Over the air cartoons had some good cartoons that rivled cable. They had cartoons that were so good that they ended up on cable because they were so good. 101 Dialmations was amazing, Recess same, Disney's Doug same, Pokemon, oh man.

Then cable tv channels had good programing as well. Everyone talks of 90s nick and 90s cartoon network. Well they actually existed at one point as just nick and cartoon network. Remember Mickey Mouse? Disney Channel actually used to show Mickey and his friends. There was actually a time when Hanna Montana and High School Musical didn't exist. Nick didn't show the same 3 shows over and over again. Spongebob had new episodes, every Friday night actually. Cartoon Network showed a mix of clasic animation from warner brothers, mgm, and hanna-barbara, in adition to new shows most stemming from what a cartoon. Disney XD was Toon Disney, nuf said there.

Well then comes some changes, but things were still grand. But then 2006 struck, and VHS tapes were no longer being made. Granted, DVD is better than VHS, but all the way through 2005, childrens entertainment was still good. Sure cartoon cartoon fridays, a friday programing block hosted by cartoon characters from the network, was replaced by fridays, a friday night line up hosted by 2 stupid adults that had this party with a bunch of kids while watching cartoons, back in 2001 or so, but it still worked. But come 2006, cartoons started sucking. Cartoons were being cancled and replaced by live action. Ok, I can't go on, nastalgia is killing me right now.

(tears for the old days shed. No more remenising will happen for fear of this happening again.)

So here's the thing. I'm not one of those nastalgia fanboys that feels that only the 90s is good. I like some of the cartoons and shows that are on now. I like some cartoon network new cartoons, but it's not at the same level as it once was. I feel I must point out some things that are the past but should not be. For starters, cartoon television line ups. Gone are the days of 1 saturday morning, Disney's one too, kids WB, friday night nicktoons, cartoon cartoon fridays, fridays, saturday morning cartoons, and the like. The big thing that shouldn't have happened was the removal of new cartoons on friday nights. Yes adults don't watch TV on fridays and Saturdays because they are going out, but news flash, that's when kids can! Even when I did get cable, I didn't watch a whole lot because I was busy. I looked forward to the weekend when I could stay up late and just watch TV. Kids watch on Friday night and Saturday night, not weekdays. And that's Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon is worse. They rerun the same episodes over and over again and air a new episode in "a week long premere." I don't want 1 new episode everyday for a week. I want 1 new episode every week.

Now here's the thing. No line ups anymore. Period. Sure they have a schedule, but it's not a line up. Line ups have names. The last TV line up I recall was the cw 4kids. Unfortunately 4kids isn't the best, so we're stuck with nothing. Where was I? I blame the shitty TV I'm watching because that's all that's on. Uhhhh, o yeah, I still need to talk about how cartoons are no longer fun for both kids and parents. Cartoons used to be fun for both kids and adults. There was once a time when cartoons were imature enough for kids to enjoy, while also having humor and themes that the parents could enjoy as well. Now we are stuck with cartoons that are so imature that only the kids will enjoy it, or are just way to mature for kids. But then again, that's if we're lucky enough to get cartoons. Yeah that's right, I'm calling you out childrens networks. Cartoons are fun for kids, and for adults as well. Your stupid live action isn't and will only last as long as your young actors. Cartoon characters can stay that age forever, and adults can be funny and not creepy. Only 1/4 of Nickelodean's programing is cartoons. SpongeBob is the only cartoon. Victorious, iCarly, and Big time Rush are live action. Disney, they got rid of their cartoon channel for a live action for boys channel and don't show cartoons other than Phineous and Ferb on Disney Channel. Cartoon Network is the last hold out for cartoons, but the again *cough bs real.*

Disney XD has some hope. They still show marathons of their shows, some of them are entertaining, like I'm in the Band and Kick Butouski. They are Disney, and the others follow Disney. I hope they bring us back to a happy time.

And then there's the no more kids shows on network tv. No more 1 saturday morning, no more Kids WB, no more any kids tv on over the air waves. I thing ABC still has ABC Kids, but that line ups sucks and no one knows about it. It's a sad atempt at 1 saturday morning.

Earlier I mentioned anime on TV. We fans used to be able to watch anime on TV without the netflix, hulu plus, DVDs, or any of that. We used to be able to watch Pokemon, Dragon Ball Z, and Sailor Moon on UPN. Remember UPN, before it bacame the cw? It was awesome. Then Cartoon Network used to show tons of anime. Now all we can do is watch DBZ Kai and Shippuden but only at weird times. Ahhhhh.

No more tv line ups, no more over the air cartoons, no more good cartoons, and almost no more cartoons period. Ahhhhh Well this has been pokematic signing off and bu bye.

Pokematic Green Lantern Review (text)

Better than I expected.
Search & Win
If it's not a good game or catholic...who do you call?...Why pokematic "hi."

I recently saw Green Lantern in theater. To read how I came to seeing it, click here. I must say, super great movie.  I must say I didn't have very high hopes for this movie. As we know, live action DC movies have not been really good, except for the Christopher Nolan batman movies. It was always DC that made amazing animated movies and Marvel that did the good live action. Well this movie broke that pattern.

I'll start out with the story. As a super Hero movie, don't expect many plot twists. Basically it is all about this pilot that has the ring bestowed upon him as he is without fear apparently. Well after being bestowed, he goes off to the planet of the Green Lanterns. They harness the power of will who's color is green. Will is the most powerful energy, and most stable. The only energy that is more powerful is fear, or yellow. The only reason why the lanterns don't use it is because it is unstable and consumes the host. The villain was once and elder of the Lanterns that went to try and use the power of fear, but was consumed by it and is now evil. He was once contained but now has escaped and it seems like no one can defeat him. For more watch the movie when it comes out on DVD or find it in theaters somewhere.

Now for the adaptation. I admit, I have not seen much of Green Lantern prior to watching the movie so I'm not sure exactly how closely it follows. I don't know much about the Green Lantern story except for this one DVD of Green Lantern first flight. I own that DVD and know the story for that but not strait from the comics. They did make the Hal more human in the sense of he had fear and had to concur it. From what I remember in First Flight Hal just kind of gets right into it. The movie also spent more time on earth than in First Flight. But from what I remember, they followed quite well.

I should talk about the visuals. I saw it in 2D, so I can't speak for the 3D. I can think that maybe a few scenes looked good but wasn't all super great like Avatar. Well 3D aside, the visuals were great. For the more human characters like Sinestro, I can assume that it was make-up and not cg. It looked really good. Then there was the less human characters, and they looked lifelike. The fish guy, the pink buff guy, and the elders all looked like real living beings and not CG characters. Then all the scenery. Wow was that good. They all looked real and not green screen. It looked great.

Because this movie felt a little like a Marvel film, I thought I'd wait until after the credits to see if they would do the same thing as Marvel does and see a teaser for the next movie. I am glad I did. They did in fact have a teaser for their next project. I won't reveal it because I want you to do the same thing to see it. It's kind of mind blowing. I even stayed until after that, but to read about that, check out the story of today here.

Amazing movie, go see it. This has been Pokematic signing off and bu bye.

Happy gamer Xperia Play initial thoughts review.

Smart phones tend to have cheap touchscreen and accelerometer games that are basically online flash games. But Sony has created a phone that's part psp and it is good.

I first saw the Xperia Play in an article about phones through my yahoo portal. They made it sound like it was on it's way out, but then Verizon started advertising it and it got me very interested. I looked up a review and it sounded really cool. Well today I had to go to the Verizon store, read about my slightly eventful day here, and I had some time to play around with the phones. I immediately went out to find the Xperia Play so I can play around with it. And it was really cool.
Search & Win
While I can't talk about how well the service is, mainly because I can't call or text from the demo phone. But like most smart phones, it has a touch screen, and it is very responsive. It has a slide out pad like many other phones. But unlike most phones, instead of a keyboard it has a d-pad, 2 touch pad analog sticks, and the standard x triangle square and circle buttons. It makes it perfect for playing games. I would think that the non game services are fine, but I'm here to talk about the gaming.

When you open the slider, it goes from the menu to the games menu where you can select what game you want to buy or play that is currently on your phone. It comes with a racing game and crash bandicoot, and some others that I didn't demo at the store. Well first I demoed Crash. I bought it a while ago for my psp from psn, and it is a really fun game. I played though the first level, and it is exactly the same as the psn version. I know, I played the level so many times after I beat the game so I could 100%. It is exactly the same, and the controls for it are the same. I wasn't able to use the touch analog sticks, but the game feels better using the d-pad.

After that I tried the racing game I didn't get to pay much, but what I did it was pretty good. For that one I tried the touch analog sticks. It could just be that I wasn't used to the analog stick things, but they didn't respond very well. The racing game it's self was...well a racing game. I'm not a big fan of racers. They are fun, but I wouldn't spend a lot of time playing them. For free I'd enjoy it, but not sure I would buy it. But it's free so who cares. And it is playable with the d-pad, so you don't have to worry about having to play with the bad analog stick things. On the side where they should be, there was the l and r shoulder buttons.

Now is a god time to talk about price. I did take a quick look at the marketplace. And the games seemed decent, and with decent prices. It was like $3 to get a pac man game, and that seems reasonable. I don't know about storage, but I would believe that it would use a micro storage device like a micro sd, or since it's Sony, a micro memory stick. Games that I download from psn take up a fair amount of spece, like between 500 megs and 2 gigs. But since it's a phone, it could just stream. I don't know all the specifics since I haven't researched it much, but I would believe that it is reasonable with the storage. But the price is a bit of a downer, but I guess it's reasonable. The price at my store was $129.99 plus tax and contract. Initially when I saw that I thought it was a bit pricey, but then I thought about what I payed for my used psp. I payed $90 for it, and I just looked up the price for a new psp go, which is basically what this is, and it's $179.95 on amazon. The price of a new psp 3000 on amazon is $129, about the same price as this phone. So with the Xperia play you get most of a pspgo and a phone all in one. If you have the money to spend, I would say buy it. It's a really cool smart phone, and I think I'll get it for my first smart phone. So until next time, (Spock spread) game on and have fun.

What's the point of tablets

Tablets are stupid and we have apple to thank.

If it's not a good game or catholic...who do you call...why pokematic "hi."

This post is a product of it's time. This was true back in August of 2011 but not true now. Please read my follow-up, Tablets, a second look.
Ever since Steve Jobs unleashed his latest demon, the tablet computer has become a big market for tablet computers. And it begs me to ask one question...Why? While I do hate apple, I must respect their smart phone and what it has done for the world of cell phones. Don't respect ipod because it killed an otherwise good market. But with the ipad, I see no real use for it. Basically it's an iphone/itouch that you can't fit in your pocket or it's a macbook that has no keyboard, CD/DVD drive, usb port, and most everything a standard netbook can do. And this is basically what the ipad was.

Well just like apple, they use their pawns to create a market for an otherwise useless product. I remember reading in TIME that other companies have tried to make tablet computers but failed and that the ipad was probably going to succeed because it's apple. I must say that the original ipad was a fail in it's self. Here's a video on why it sucks, aside from the fact that it's apple.

The ipad 2 had some improvements, but still sucks, and here's another video explaining why.

Well now we have many other tablets, all better than the ipad, but still not really worth it. Now I'm a geek, so I really can't help but play with the demo tablets in the store, but never the ipad. I must say that they are fun. The racing games have cool controls with the accelerometers and the controlling and angry birds. I've played with the Motorola xoom and hp touch pad. Right now the hp touch pad is the best in my books. Why? Because of one word, FLASH!!! Yeah all the others out there don't have flash. Expect for the "big new edition" with the ipad 3 to be the inclusion of flash. But I don't think I'll ever get a tablet.

Why you might ask? Well tablet computers will always be wanna be laptops. Really, they are laptops without the ports, drives, keyboards, and program support. And I feel that there is a difference between programs and applications. Apps are simpler typically than programs. There is this Accer or some name similar to that has a keyboard dock that makes it a little more like a LAPTOP but still not quite. I think dell has this tablet laptop hybrid where you can turn the screen one way and have it facing outward when closed and have it be a tablet where when you have the screen facing inward it is a basic laptop. I think you should buy those kinds of computers if you're considering a tablet. You get all the ports and programs and whatnot while also having the touch screen. Sure you don't get the thinness and lightness of a tablet, but you get all that you would need for practical use.

I really don't know what use an ipad or other tablets would be in real life. I can see it in a business aspect where you have a meeting with a presentation and then having all the graphs and stuff right there with all the people in the meeting or in an educational setting so you can project all the info to the students so it's right in front of them, but that's it. I don't see any real use for it for people outside situations like that. I can show off pictures after I load them on? I can watch online videos, but only those where I have an app for, unless hp touch pad. I can read magazines and books, but so can an ereader that's cheaper. I can watch movies, but only after being downloaded and not off of a DVD. I can play some games, most of which are probably available on more portable media. Yeah I really don't see much use where smart phones are much more portable and laptops are much more practical. So yeah, this has been Pokematic signing off and bu-bye.

We all know that ipad was a stupid name. So many tampon jokes. Here's a video put out by National Lampoon lampooning it.

Pokematic Rise of the Planet of the Apes Review

This film has a lot of motion capture and it is done really well.

If it's not a good game or catholic...who do you call...why Pokematic.

I just recently saw Rise of the Planet of the Apes. I have to say it was one of the best in the series. Not only was the visuals, story, and acting amazing, well...that's kind of what there is. CG was really good but that goes under visuals. Well let's delv into the details, but no spoilers.

Possible spoilers ahead, but it really is just plot synopsis.

First I'll talk about the story. As many of us know by now, Rise of the Planet of the Apes is the telling of how the apes became super intelligent and the dominant species. Well not so much as being dominant, that's for the sequel. Really awesome fight scene between human and ape that we see in the trailers. But that doesn't really tell the coming of dominance. So like I said it follows the coming of intelligence for the apes. The main ape in the movie is Caesar, a chimp that was part of an experiment that caused him to become super intelligent. He is them brought up similarly to a human, but an incident cause him to have the life of an ape forced onto him. Well in his life of an ape, he is with other apes. The place where he is very bad, with horrible living conditions and horrible people in charge, mainly Tom Felton. Figure out the rest for yourself, or go see the movie. There is an Easter egg for us who know the original POTA, but I'm not ruining it.

Next I'll talk about the visuals. In the other movies, the apes were people in amazing makeup. But in those movies, they were supposed to be the new "humans." This time around, the apes are...well apes. They are just apes with above average intelligence. I remember hearing that for Caesar, the same guy that motion captured for Golum/Smegal did the motion capture for Caesar. And must I say, Caesar was amazing with the visuals. I saw it with my grandpa and he had trouble believing that Caesar wasn't a guy in a costume because the CG was so good. A few times I thing they had actual apes because they were doing simple tricks, like putting their hand out. It would sure be easier, and cheaper. But then all the action of the apes was amazing because the CG on them was great. I look forward to seeing how the sequel will be.

Finally I'll talk about the acting. Well as I stated earlier, Caesar is motion capture, and the guy that did that played a great intelligent chimp. Very believable. I sure hope Tom hasn't type casted himself as an evil character who can only play bad guys. I've seen him in interviews and special features, and he's actually quite funny. I sure hope in his next movie that he plays a more comedic role, because he sure is funny. But like Drako before this, he played the abusive, evil ape person that took care of the apes. And while he wasn't sneering "Potter" or "mudblod," he played the evil character quite well. While there was probably some motion capture people in green or blue body suits, the actors interacting with the CG apes was amazing. But now I'm just rambling.

If you are a fan of Planet of the Apes, I highly recommend this movie. If you haven't seen then, rent them, or buy them here.
Amazing movie. Go see it while you can. Because it would best be viewed on a movie screen. This has been Pokematic signing off and Bu bye.

Pokematic Scott Pilgrim VS. the world review

I found every aspect of his movie to be bad. It should have been animated.

If it's not a good game or catholic...who do you call...why pokematic, "hi."
Search & Win
I'm not entirely sure why I hate this movie. Could it be that the expectations were set to high? Could it be that I should have seen it in theaters as opposed to DVD? Or could it be that it truly sucked? That's right, I didn't like Scott Pilgrim. The rest of the world loved it, and so did critiques. But I hated it. I thought it was so stupid.

As many of us probably know, Scott Pilgrim is based off of a no name manga that only gained popularity after the movie was made. Now I am not familiar with the manga, but I can assume that it follows the manga closely since there aren't crazed fans complaining left and right about how it doesn't follow it. But for me, it follows the manga format a little to closely. By that I am referring to the large amount of comic book elements. You know, the "bangs" and "pows" and "that night" elements everywhere. It flowed just like a motion comic. Except for the fighting, but I'll get to that. The problem with that is that I felt that it didn't feel right as a live action movie. The times when it had the actual motion comic for the flashbacks were a welcome relief. All the comic book elements would work so much better that way. In my professional opinion, the entire movie should have been done that way. Well except for the fighting scenes.

The fighting scenes are the only part that shouldn't be done like a motion comic. The fighting scenes worked exactly like a video game, and again that's a bad thing in a live action movie. It had health bars, combos, points, and the works. The only thing it was missing was 8 or 16-bit animations for the fight scenes. I know video games are getting better graphics every day and are looking more realistic. But for something that is trying to mimic classic fighters, it really could have been far better if it were 8 or 16-bit graphics.

I know it sounds as if all I care about is the way the video was done. And it really could have been better if it did switch between motion comic and video game graphics. But I am not so shallow as to only care about that. If the video was done to my specifications, it would have been amazing. Animation can get away with the crap that they tried to pull off in this movie. The lack of a compelling story, ridiculous effects, cheap jokes, and other aspects really killed this movie for me.

Let me start out by talking about Scott's roommate. Now I don't have anything against gay people and gay characters. In fact one of my good friends is gay. I do have a problem when they don't shut up about being gay, such as Scott's roommate. It seemed as if every scene with him was nothing but saying that he's gay. "Hi I'm Scott's gay roommate. I like men because I'm gay. This is my boyfriend. I have him because I'm gay. Did I mention that I'm not strait?" It got old very fast and became a negative of this movie.

Another aspect I didn't like was the stupid video game jokes. Everyone found these to be a big selling point of the movie. It could be that I read about them in Nintendo Powers and everyone talked about them and I knew them. Seeing them in context, well they weren't all that spectacular. "The name of the band Scott's in is called 'Sex Bombom.'" "At one point Scott powers up." "Scott gets an extra life." With everyone talking about that, it made it sound like a perfect nerd movie, BUT IT WASN'T! The trailers were right, it is a movie about some guy trying to fight off his girlfriend's evil ex's, not this amazing nerd movie. The jokes sounded like they would be all over the movie, but only happened a few times in order to focus more on the story.

While I'm on the story, I might as well mention how bland the story was. Here's the summary of the story; A loser named Scott Pilgrim is in a band, the only fan of them is his girlfriend that is 10 years younger than him, he falls for this girl with 7 evil ex's, and now he has to fight them off. That was it. Well I guess there's the plot twist about how the 7th ex is the new owner of sex bombom, but that's not a story saver. Done properly that could be good, but it wasn't. Typically, story can take a back seat to jokes and action, but that's only if the other aspects are good, which they weren't.

Now I feel I should talk about some of the sheer weirdness of their world. In live action movies, I like for there to be an element of realism. I'm fine with a super hero doing something amazing and everyone thinking that's amazing, but that wasn't the case with Scott Pilgrim. For someone who is supposed to be a loser he sure can do some amazing things. The fight scenes involve such amazing fights and super powers. OK, I can deal with that. But then after the fights, everyone just acts like that's normal. Wait, a super amazing fight just happened and everyone acts like it didn't happen? That's OK in cartoons, but not in live action.

So story, video style, jokes, Scott's roommate, and way the world works all sucked. Is there any more? Yes, Scott Pilgrim himself. A good nerd becoming awesome story can turn out very good. Take spider man for example. He's a nerd, but through a radioactive spider bite, he becomes Spider Man. That was a good movie series and Amazing Spider Man was even better. I feel as if they might have overplayed the loser becoming awesome bit though. Well at least with no external help. He starts out as a 24 year old loser who can't get a girlfriend that isn't 14 and their dates consist of going to the library. He also is in a band that no one likes, except his girlfriend. Initially I thought that maybe he was 17 or still in high school so then it isn't to desperate. But then I found out that he and his friends are 24. Wow, jailbait much? Super loser.

Well at a concert he meets this girl who has 7 evil ex's that he has to fight off. Yeah, a loser like Scott is going to be able to fight off 7 evil ex's. The only way he could win is if they are even worse than him, and based off the trailers, they look tough. But what happens? He fights them off and wins. All of them. If he is such a loser, how was he able to do all that? My guess is because he's a dick. Yeah, major dick. It seemed like he just started going out with the 14 year old and then he started cheating on her with the evil ex girl. Then there's the part where the evil ex girl says "you're just an evil ex waiting to happen." I don't remember what caused her to say that, but I remember he was horrible. He made for a rather bad protagonist.

One reason I've heard that people say made this movie good is that it was different. But here's the thing, different doesn't always mean better. There are many "different" movies that suck. I failed to see how this movie was good. Oh well. This has been Pokematic signing off and bu bye.

Pokematic Smurfs review

Super funny movie. Can be enjoyed by children and adults alike. But still smurfs so if you hate them you will not like this movie.

If it's not a good game or catholic....Who do you call...why Pokematic. "Hi"

So I just saw The Smurfs in 2D. All I have to say is, super funny movie. As a fan of the classic show, I must say that they stayed rather true to the original. Well character personality wise. The whole New York thing never happened in the classic. Nor was Neil Patric Harris and Jayma Mays ever in the classic. Or at least not as humans if for some reason they ever guest stared or did some other voices. I'm a bit of a fan of the original but I'm no expert.
Search & Win
Like I said. This movie was incredibly funny. One of the jokes that sticks out is when smurfet said "I kissed a smurf and liked it." Katy Pery you are funny. The Narrator smurf was funny as well. This movie is full of laugh out loud jokes.

At the beginning I was afraid that it was going to focus on clumsy over coming being clumsy. While it did focus more on clumsy than Papa, Smurfet, Grouchy, Gutsy, and Brainy. Well I won't ruin the end for you. But quite funny.

I feel I should mention the voice acting, and acting in general. Everyone was really good. I don't remember gutsy being Scottish, but it added a nice way to differentiate the smurfs. We all know on their own, smurfs all look the same. All of them blue, with white hats and pants, and 3 apples high. But then different props like brainy's glasses help differentiate between them. But all did good voice acting and acting. Katy was a good smurfet. She added some squeaking to get the full smurf effect. George Lopez was a good grouchy. But I must say that every sentence didn't start with "I hate." Papa smurf actually did a good job at getting the voice of the classic Papa. It wasn't spot on but still very good. While I'm at it, I might as well mention that the voices weren't their classic squeaky. So if that was a deal breaker from the original, no worries there. The humans did a good job with the CG smurfs. Neil and Jayma and Gargamell did a great job interacting with things that aren't really there. But that's also in part to the animators. But that only refers to getting the smurfs in eye contact and such. The actors did a great job looking like they were talking to and interacting with CG smurfs.

I recommend it to kids and families. And anyone who likes the smurfs. Smurf haters, not really. They still sing their annoying song. New to the series, go see it. Well this has been Pokematic signing off and bu bye.

Sometimes we make videos that are cross overs that need to be in both categories but we want to make sure they are cross overs.
