Pokematic Captain America Review

Marvel strikes again with Captain America. Not only is it visually appealing but also has a cool story.

I just saw Captain America: The First Avenger. I initially wasn't going to see it today. But that story can be read here. I had rather high hopes since it is a live action Marvel movie, and those tend to be good. And it delivered. Now I admit that I am not very familiar with the Captain America: The First Avenger series as a comic and cartoon. In fact that the only previous knowledge I have is from the crossovers in the Amazing Spider Man cartoons when they aired on Toon Disney. Well from what I know they did a good job at staying true to the source material. But all I really knew was the origin of Captain America. Well it was still really good.

For those that don't know, Captain America: The First Avenger is the story of a young small guy who wants to join the army in the time of World War 2. But due to his size and physical inhibitors, like asthma, prevent him from enlisting. He tries 5 times but all of them fail. But he tries at a fair and the scientist finds him to be the perfect candidate for this experiential soldier project. One difference was that the lab just kind of blew up after the test and a Nazi spy planted a bomb where from what I recall it was originally some crazed nut taking an ax to the machines yelling "I will destroy this American war machine." That's not a deal breaker though, just a little different.

I feel I should mention that I didn't see it in 3D. Since I have been kind of let down with 3D movies recently, I didn't see any harm in not seeing it in 3D. I can see some scenes looking good in 3D, but not all of it. The effects were great none the less. And one thing that maybe I just wanted to see or that it actually was there, or it was there by accident, but some scenes had a sempa effect added to it. You know the yellow of old time film and pictures? Well at some points it looked like it had a mild sempa filter on it, and since this movie took place in the 40s, it looked amazing.

WARNING SPOILERS AFTER THIS POINT
Now for some story that confused me some. There was this one character that looked a little like tony stark and everyone referred to him as stark. Well Iron Man takes place in modern time and Tony doesn't look to old. But then how was he in the 40's? And then there's the matter of the avengers? Well this is my theory; that was either Tony's father or grand father. And as for The Avengers, Captain gets frozen in ice, and is brought into the modern world. And e sure to stay after the credits. After Marvel movies there are always teasers for future Marvel movies. Well this time it's the Avengers, and it points out that now all the avenger heroes are coming together for The Avengers movie. And while I'm at it, be on the look out for Stan Lee as an army general. Go out and see it. It's an amazing movie.

Pokematic Zookeeper review

This movie was funny but not truely outstanding.

I just saw Zookeeper staring Keven James. Now I don't have much to say besides it's funny. Yeah.... There's nothing truly outstanding.

Here's the premises. Keven Jame's character proposed to this one girl and she rejects because he's a Zoo keeper. Fast forward 5 years and he's still zoo keeping. The animals then help him out in trying to get the girl. They bring the animal kingdom into the mix and the results are funny. The wolf tells him to pee on stuff to mark his territory, the monkey tells him to throw poop, the bears tell him to act like a bear and growl, and other stuff like that. I won't tell you much else due to spoilers.

The animal training was good. And the special effects to give them the look of talking were good. But they were nothing special.

I'd say see it. It's very funny. But don't get one of those $10 tickets. Try to get a matinee. This has been pokematic signing off and bu bye.

Pokematic Harry Potter and the deathly Hallows part 2 review

This was an amazing movie. The special effects were amazing. The trueness to the story was great. (Here for the search teaser)

How often does a great end to a great series come along? Not often I can tell you. And that is exactly what Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 was. I recently just saw Harry Potter and the Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows, Part 2, or HP8 as I like to abbreviate. I saw it in IMAX at the Henry Ford in 3D. But I talk about that in the personal blog here. So now on to the actual review.

Let me start with the technical stuff first because once I get to story, there will be spoilers. Now like many Harry Potter movies, this had beautiful visuals. And as I mentioned, it was in 3D IMAX. I have always seen the Potter movies in IMAX, and it is always good as such. There's just something about seeing everyone with 10 ft faces. And the 3D was surprisingly good. I'm not sure if it was shot in 3D or was post production, but they did a good job with it. I'll talk about one particular scene later in the spoilers part. Then at the beginning, when it opens up with the Warner Brothers logo and the title of the movie, they changed the music so it was creepier.

And speaking of creepy, this movie will keep you on the edge of your seat and I felt like all this was going down. I swear it got colder in that theater at times. Shivers went down my spine. I almost cried because of the pain that was caused in one scene. If a movie can evoke those kinds of emotions, it's some quality story telling.

If you wish to stop now before the spoilers, this was an amazing end to a great series. I highly recommend it to every fan and passive follower.
Now on to the story part.
Major Spoiler Alert!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OK, the last film ended with Voldemort taking the elder wand. And at the beginning of this film it started out with a flashback of that scene. Then it jumps to Doby's grave and Harry was right up there with it. He then goes and sees the goblin that takes Harry, Ron, and Hermione to Bellatrix's vault. Which might I say, was an amazing scene. It had a first person element and looked amazing.

What am I doing? This film follows the book so well you could read that and you would know what was happening. They changed a few things to make the movie run faster, but they weren't super important.

One really cool thing was when Harry or his friends would destroy a horcrux, there would be a cut to Voldemort and show him getting weaker. That was really cool.

The break down in Hogwarts was really cool. Snape had all the students gather in the great hall to try to find the whereabouts of Harry, when out of no where, Harry steps forward and along with some Order members, reclaim the castle. That was really cool. Then everyone sets up defences. All the teachers set up this shield spell and Magonigle enchants these statues to defend

Well I guess now is as good a time as any to mention the pencive scene. Now this was a cool creative liberty that I think worked really well. In the book when Snape gave Harry the memory that explained everything, it was on the tip of Snapes wand and it was so large the flask nearly couldn't hold all of it. But in the movie, it was a tear. Snape was crying and that was the memory, and it fit nicely in the vile. That was a nice touch. Now on to the actual memory it's self. Like I mentioned earlier, the entire movie was in good 3D. Well for the pencive scene with all the recalling, everything was in 2D. And not bad Last Airbender supposed to be 3D but nothing was done so now the screen just is blurry. This was clear, I can take my glasses off 2D. That gave a nice comparison to the lush 3D real world to the flat 2D memory world. And not only did they do a good job casting a believable young Snape, but also included the sorting hat scene of Harry being sorted from HP1 and the oclemency scene from HP5. That surprised me and was really cool since they had the memory smoke boarder.

One thing that both my mom and I was hoping for was this one line from the big end fight scene between good people and death eaters. It is when Bellatrix Lastrange is fighting Ginny Weasly. In the book Mrs Weasly jumps in and yells "not my daughter you bitch." Thankfully that was left in, and not blotched. You could feel the mama bear in Mrs Weasly in those few words.

There was one thing that I was slightly irked with, and that was the lack of the christian allegory at the end with Harry being a Christ figure. For a full explanation given by catholiccontriversy, click here. It's the fourth video. But that was the book, and I felt they didn't do a good job conveying that. And this isn't English class Bull, Rowling made it quite obvious I feel. But I'll talk about the King's Cross scene. Originally when Harry dies, he goes to a place that reminds him of Kings Cross train station. And they do that in the movie I feel quite well. Originally he finds basically a random dead guy who is lost, but in the movie, it was the piece of Voldemort that was in Harry. Really cool. There Harry finds Dumbledoor, in a white robe, in an all white world. Normally that would be bad, but in this land of after death, it works. A kind of funny thing was how we had the polarized video, there was dirt or something on the right lens causing a few black spots and it could only really be seen in that scene because of the white. But it was polarized spots because if I closed my right eye, it wasn't there in the left picture.

I failed to mention the part about how before Harry dies, he gets the resurrection stone and brings back the ghosts of his lost friends, and HIS PARENTS. This was the first ever conversation he's had with them, and it was done quite well.

Harry comes back to life for a final dual with Voldemort. As us book readers know, there wasn't much to the final dual with Voldemort. In fact it wasn't explained quite well what happened either. Well this time around, it was drawn out into an epic battle that took place all over the castle, or what was left of it. Voldemort still kind of just dies, but he gets pealed away into nothing.

One thing I was a bit concerned about was the epilogue scene where Harry and Ginny, along with Ron and Hermione, send their kids off to Hogwarts. Harry and Ginny get married and Ron and Hermione get married and have kids. I was kind of wondering how they would make them look older, and they did wonderfully. I believed they were in their thirties.

It is a great movie and I recommend all fans and passive followers see it. This has been Pokematic signing off, and bu-bye.

Pokematic Reviews The Social Network

I found this the worst movie ever. Every aspect screamed bad. How this got an Oscar is beyond me. (So people will get a preview of the post with a search engine.)

If it's not a good game or catholic....Who do you call....Why pokematic. Hi.
Search & Win
I just rented the Oscar nominated, or was it awarded film, The social network. The sticker at family video said so. Though I have one question. How did such a terrible movie such as this receive an Oscar and was the most popular film of the year. Or was it nominated. I don't remember and neither IMDB nor Wikipedia will tell me.

So as I was saying, this movie was horrible. Everything about it screamed horrible. The acting, the scripting, the lighting, the overall images, the pacing, EVERYTHING terrible.

Let me start with the storytelling genera. OK, the film tries to be a documentary style film without being a documentary. So to compensate for it's lack of actual documentary, it attempts at being a drama. Here's the issue with blending genres. It doesn't always work as I have pointed out with Unnatural History. Shivers, unnatural history. OK, this blending of genres failed. It would have been better if they had the ability to do an actual documentary with the actual people. But unfortunately they couldn't. So they tried this and failed.

Next lets talk about the Zuckerberg character. While I don't know if he was like this in real life, they made him incredibly distant from being like an actual human. He talks so damn fast I had to replay scenes where he talked so I could here what he said. Now any good director would tell his/her actors to slow down so the audience can understand what the lines are. It is quite frustrating when someone speaks so fast that you can't understand what they're saying and what they are saying is important for the story. I know there is a comedy technique that involves speaking so fast that it is barely comprehend able. But even then they typically say the same sort of thing over and over again many times so the audience can understand what is being said. That was not the case with Zuckerberg. He spoke incredibly fast and said things once. That's not good. You will leave your audience confused as to what was just said.
Another thing about him was the fact that he had absolutely no emotions. And when I say none, I mean none. In addition to the super fast. It was also mono-tone. Any public speaker will tell you that you will bore your audience if you speak mono-toneistically. It was a bore listening to him. And he was put in situations that would lead to a rainbow of emotions. Wow rainbow of emotions. Anyways, it was like listening to a robot. But not a cool one. If that was intended, it sucked.

The story moved way to fast. Well "story" is a bit of a stretch but I'll get to that. We start out with Zuckerberg on a date with some girl that did little for the story. So then it goes really quickly to Zuckerber creating a hot or not site of people from his college. Weird but OK. That site goes viral and he is then thrown into writing "the facebook." (look confused scratching head) Uhhh OK. But in writing the hot or not site he used some chess algorithm. How does that work? But before I could try to figure that out, he's getting sued. What the? Over what? Apparently he stole some kind of algorithm in writing "the facebook." Wait, what algorithm? That one for writing the hot or not site? I was so confused. So at that point I gave up and stopped watching it. Yeah that's right, I stopped a movie before it was over.

I mentioned the "story" earlier, or lack there of. The "story" was so dry that I would rather watch the news. And PS; I hate the news. But I won't get into it. I get that it's about the finding of facebook, but I have not seen a story so dry and boring since reading a history text book. And might I mention that there were elements that added nothing to the story and were shearly random. Example A: the scene where the couple make out in a bathroom stall for about 5 minutes. It's not like it even added sex appeal because there was nothing hot about it. The only reason people think this story was "intriguing" was because it was about their favorite website ever. Oh, and my cousins who are facebook addicts, hated this movie. It was that bad.

Now I mentioned the camera and lighting very early on. Like at the beginning of the post. I read a review that said that the lighting and camera was amazing. Obviously the guy hasn't seen good movies with great lighting and camera. Many of the scenes took place at either night or in dark places. Now for a scene or two, that can be fine. Or if it takes place at night and is like a spy movie or something, playing with different shades of black and shadows takes care of that. But that wasn't the case. Lots of the scenes in the dark had poor lighting causing an ugly yellow to come off as the whites and so. Then all the dark looked horrible against Zuckerbergs white face, causing it to look like a floating head. Then there was the jump to the light scenes, and it was a bit much. It was like "whoah! Color shock." If I were to do something like this and hand it in as a project for video class. My teacher would have given me a bad grade or tell me to redo it because the camera and lighting was horrible.

After all this bashing, I feel I should tell the one thing that was nearly good. I'm a nerd, I know HTML coding. At one point, they were talking about all the math and coding that goes into it. But that was barely any of it. So once the movie almost got my attention. It lost it by dropping the nerd stuff. And loved the shout outs to myspace but we all know he destroyed the fan base for that with his stupid site.

I have absolutely no idea how this movie got such high praise. It dethroned Scott Pilgrim as worst movie I've ever scene. I'll get to that later. That just proves that the Oscars are rigged, because this movie sucked. Don't waist your time on this horrible movie.

Well this has been Pokematic signing off and bu bye.
