I don't remember exactly how I found Vidme but it was at some point around 2015 when Zippcast died for the final time and I wanted to find another site where I didn't have to deal with copyright BS.
I have a bit of a storied history with YouTube "alternatives" and Vidme was no exception, right off the bat they refused to verify me for no real reason when they verified my now former friend ZeltraxMillennium. I might have been a no-namer but it's not like ZM was much more well-known either (and he was only even there because I suggested it to him) and his now-defunct video review show wasn't that different in quality from mine (it more consistent at least). Then there was the whole controversy with AT abusing a hashtag for smaller creators. I should have stayed in the shadows instead of coming out and admitting that I orchestrated it, the way he reacted... I just... It was a bit much for me to handle and I honestly felt really guilty about it. Also there was that one time where the pizzagate conspiracy nutjobs (they're not theorists, calling it conspiracy theory is an insult to the concept of theory) whinged about a video not being removed as fast as they liked so I made fun of them at some point but I forgot where it was that I did and there was some controversy about that AskaGangsta copycat AxxL that I also made fun of https://archive.org/details/AReeinactment...7Gr8/The+AxxL+_drama_+in+a+nutshell-DwbE.mp4
And of course, I was easily Vidme's biggest critic. They acted like nothing was wrong when I showed them the sinking Alexa rankings and deflected all my criticism (save for when I complained about a block button around when I first joined. I actually wanted it because I didn't want to interact with AT, which was another way of how I f*cked up with that controversy. The fact they didn't start with one really goes to show these people had no business running a social media website) with Duffy acting like I was just salty about not being verified (I was still salty about it sure but that was irrelevant). That said, after the Kentantino controversy which I was of course all on board for, I went into a private chat with him and he kind of seemed like a bad person who might have actually done something to deserve getting punished but honestly I have no way of knowing for sure. I didn't WANT Vidme to die but they absolutely deserved to fail.
After Vidme (mind I was still uploading to YouTube, Internet Archive and a few other places after Zippcast because I didn't want to repeat the mistake of putting all my eggs into one basket), I went to Vidlii but the upload limit would've made reuploading my reviews a chore so I left for a time, then came back after the Alison drama because I had previously talked about how all these "YouTube alternatives" were doomed to die or fail their users and I was right and wanted to rub it in their faces and end my friendship with Spiderfan (who I had been friends with since Zippcast...) who sided with Alison in the controversy who seemed to vanish after Vidblue naturally fell through because of course it did... My own work had slowed down more and more over the years after Zippcast due to deteriorating mental and physical health and I'm currently in a now five-year indefinite hiatus of my review show. Hopefully I'll be able to do more after I adjust to the side effects of the pill I'm currently taking for my physical health though and hopefully it will improve my mental health too.
Vidme NEVER had the values they claimed they had. If they did, they would have verified me. They had absolutely no reason to not do so, they showed such a huge double standard by verifying ZM and not me so early on.
That's NOT how the 1st amendment works. The 1st restricts the government more than it gives anyone a right. Literally the only reason the bill of rights even exists in the first place is to prevent the government from falling into tyranny. It has nothing to do with businesses.
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances."
People going on about the 1st who've obviously never actually read it are the epitome of cringeworthy frankly and most of them are just people who are upset about not getting away with being aholes without consequences.
Course, the governments of a lot of the world in general have been controlled by corporations since the industrial revolution (copyright is rooted in the censorship of the printing press by the Roman Catholic Church (who are never not the worst ever since the Crusades, possibly earlier. Did you know the Holy See is the only micro-nation in the world that doesn't have to pay property tax?)) who were monopolizing the technology) but that's a whole other pandora's box.
MCNs were garbage groups that didn't care about their creators either. Machinima and Fullscreen were notorious for this and Maker was sold to Disney who promptly shut it and Blip down which really went to show how little "Shay Carl" cared about the creators on his network and video platform too.

Here's my response to the video itself:
